What is Botox?

Botox is a protein formulated from botulism toxin. It is commercially used in the form of injections that are particularly injected underneath the skin so as to minimize and smooth out the visible lines and wrinkles on the face. This drug works by inhibiting the contractions of the muscles by stopping the nerve impulses. As a result of which the muscles stop contracting which leads to the softening of wrinkles. This treatment is known for immediate results which become evident right after 2-3 days. The effects of one Botox injection last for a period of 6-8 months.  Botox has taken the world by a storm owing to its convenient and immediate cosmetic improvements. It is much less invasive than a conventional face lift job which requires the person to cover the face with loads of bandages for several days. This treatment is administered within few minutes and generally does not leave the patient with any significant side effect. An injection filled with this protein is injected with the help of a fine needle to minimize any discomfort to the patient. In most of the cases, patients are strongly recommended to avoid the dosage of alcohol and anti-inflammatory medicines like aspirin, for a span of at least two weeks prior to the treatment.
